I had a similar problem.  How did you start things?  Presumably with a 
script that does things like

	echo "eth0" > /proc/sys/net/decnet/default_device

In the version of the DECnet patches of a few weeks ago, that would
not work.  The equivalent would work for the other parameters, but for 
default_device it would only work if I said "echo -n".  And it still
appears not to work in the lateste patches (the ones for 2.3.38).

Speaking of startup commands, my script sets
/proc/sys/net/decnet/node_type to "e".  But that name isn't there
anymore in the latest edition.  The documentation in the Linux source
tree still mentions it, though...
