Re: Problem connecting to Linux from DECnet/OSI Digital UNIX 4.0E system
Hi all,
Following on from my earlier post, here's another two traces.
(1) dnosi2_connect.trace - this is a trace of 'sethost 1.7' from
DECPC (Linux) to TBS18 (Digital Unix). I get the error message
'Error writing characteristics: Transport endpoint is not connected'
come back immediately.
(2) dnet_connect.trace - this is a trace of 'sethost 1.2' from
DECPC back to itself (using interface lo) ... I edited out the
duplicates normally seen in the trace to make it more readable.
This connection succeeds...
A couple of things I noticed:
- When using interface lo, it appears that the DECnet short-format
frames are being used, whereas the long-format is used on Ethernet ?
I haven't done the hex decode to confirm this, but the headers
definitely
appear shorter.
- The segment size requested/declared by Digital Unix is 1454, whereas
the segment size used by Linux is 1459 ... could this be the problem?
Isn't the negotiation meant to end up using the smaller of the two?
Given the error message reported, I get the impression that there is
definitely some kind of mismatch in the negotiated characteristics.
