I don't know if the latest 2.3.xx kernel would work.  If I use 2.2.14 with
the kernel patch DECnet works.  If I use 2.3.xx I only have DECnet using
lo.  I can't even get it to use eth0 if I use the "echo -n "eth0" >" trick.
